HEADS UP EVERYONE! SEE FLYERS ATTACHED
Ohio Immigrant Alliance (OIA) has called for a statewide week of interfaith vigils from May 23rd-30th in solidarity with people in civil immigration detention (a.k.a. ICE jail). Working with detained immigrants, OIA coalition cancelled two ICE jail contracts at the Morrow and Butler Jails during the first Trump administration. We’re going to do it again!!!
There will be planned vigils/events outside each of Ohio’s six immigration jails: the Seneca, Geauga, Mahoning, and Butler County Jails; Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio (CCNO)in Stryker, OH, and Northeast Ohio Correctional Center. Faith leaders, organizers, and community members will raise their voices, hold space for reflection, and stand in collective action starting May 23 and ending May 30. Vigils may include interfaith prayers, brief speaking programs, and peaceful reflection with signs and candles.
Core Demands – !
● An end to ICE detention — we did it before, we’ll do it again!
● Transparency in detention facility funding
● An end to 287(g) agreements
Need a ride there and back? Please consider joining our NWOPC car pool down to CCNO in Stryker, OH on May 30th for the VOICES OF THE DETAINED Interfaith Vigil at the ICE Jail there. IMPORTANT: DM me asap this week if you can volunteer to be a driver, or are a passenger needing a ride and I'll provide you with more information. Thank you.
