Ohio lawmakers have introduced House Bill 1 (HB1) and Senate Bill 88 (SB88)—two bills that could have devastating consequences for immigrant communities. These proposals would prohibit individuals from purchasing property within 25 miles of "critical infrastructure" if they come from a country currently designated as a "foreign adversary." Currently, this list includes China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela, and it may be updated at any time.
X Because "critical infrastructure" ranges from railroads and telephone poles to water treatment facilities, these bills would essentially restrict property ownership across the entire state.
X While U.S. citizens are exempt, thousands of legal immigrants - including permanent residents, visa holders, and individuals with protected status - would be barred from purchasing homes and businesses, with no evidence of wrongdoing.
SB88 goes even further, requiring affected immigrants to sell property they already legally own within two years.
X These bills would strip immigrants of the right to own a home or business by equating individuals with foreign governments and legalizing discrimination based solely on national origin. We need to stop HB1 & SB88 now before they become law!
Our goal is to have 1,000+ people demonstrate their support for Ohio's immigrant communities - all are welcome! Bring signs, friends, and family! We will also host meetings with legislators after the rally.
