CAIR Welcomes U.S. Recognition of Genocidal War Crimes in Sudan, Condemns ‘Extreme Hypocrisy’ of Silence on Gaza Genocide

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed U.S. recognition of genocidal war crimes in Sudan and condemned the Biden administration’s “extreme hypocrisy” on Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

The Biden administration said that a Sudanese paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its proxies, are committing genocide in that nation’s civil war.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“We welcome the U.S. government's long overdue decision to explicitly renounce the so-called Rapid Support Forces and condemn the genocidal war crimes its forces have committed during Sudan's civil war. The United States should publicly demand that the RSF surrender and that the Sudanese military transfer power to a representative, democratically-elected government.

"At the same time, the Biden administration's recognition of genocide in Sudan highlights the extreme hypocrisy of its support for the genocide in Gaza. Genocide is genocide, regardless of whether Israeli or Sudanese forces commit it. No one will take the United States seriously if we only selectively oppose genocide."

CAIR Action Alert: Tell Congress to Vote NO on Bill Sanctioning ICC for Prosecuting Israeli War Criminals

The U.S. House of Representatives will vote today on the misleadingly titled Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act (H.R. 23). Introduced by Representatives Mast (R-FL) and Roy (R-TX), H.R. 23 would impose U.S. sanctions on any individual working to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute American citizens or officials from U.S.-allied countries, including Israel.

CAIR Commends Pope Francis for Again Denouncing Israel’s War Crimes in Gaza

In a statement, CAIR said:

“We applaud Pope Francis for continuing to speak out against the Israeli government’s war crimes in Gaza. His principled statements stand in stark contrast to the immoral and unprincipled stance of President Biden, who has chosen to side with indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu over the leader of the Catholic Church.”

CAIR Welcomes Hate Crime Charge After Alleged Racist Assault in Louisiana

The San Francisco Bay Area Office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), National Lawyers Guild San Francisco Bay Area, American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and Arab Resource and Organizing Center jointly submitted the complaint.

CAIR San Francisco Bay Area Executive Director Zahra Billoo said students are concerned their advocacy for human rights is being silenced.

“People are reporting that if they are Palestinian or pro-Palestine, they’re facing targeting or repression at school,” she told San José Spotlight. “That’s left the students feeling as though they don’t have a space to have conversations about who they are and what they feel.”
