A former Israeli soldier on vacation in Brazil fled the country after a case was brought against him alleging that he was responsible for war crimes while serving in Gaza. The case was filed by the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), which has tracked the activities of hundreds of Israeli soldiers serving in Gaza. Last week, a Brazilian judge ordered police to investigate the soldier, based on the complaint brought by the HRF, accusing him of “participating in massive demolitions of civilian homes in Gaza during a systematic campaign of destruction.” There have been similar investigations launched into possible Israeli war crimes by authorities in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Belgium, the Netherlands, Serbia, Ireland, and Cyprus. Our nation, which claims to be a defender of human rights, must join other nations in investigating, charging and prosecuting those responsible for these crimes against humanity – starting with those who murdered Americans Shireen Abu Akleh, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi and Omar Assad. Our government must also end all military and financial support for the genocide in Gaza.” He noted that yesterday, CAIR said President Biden has “’normalized’ the genocide of the Palestinian people” after the freezing death of yet another baby in Gaza – the eighth such death resulting from the Israeli genocide and the Biden administration’s support for that slaughter, forced starvation, mass destruction, and ethnic cleansing.
