Guantanamo: Injustice, Impunity & the Fight for Accountability
Wed December 11 at noon ET

Call or email Biden every day: tell him to release the prisoners NOW. Our demands:
  • Release to safe countries the16 prisoners who have been "cleared for transfer"
  • Clear and release the 3 who have never been charged
  • Settle plea deals and finalize plans for each charged man who wants a plea

Help the Guantanamo Survivors Fund (GSF) raise $50,000 by the end of the year, to provide small grants to 15 more Guantanamo survivors. Your donation -- large or small -- really makes a difference. In the first 2 years GSF gave grants to 40 Guantanamo survivors for needs such as shelter and food, emergency surgery, medical care and medicine. Let's keep going!

January 11th: Vigils, an online workshop and WAT Zoom conversations

WAT won't be gathering in DC for January 11, so plan your local vigil for that Saturday to hold up the imprisoned men and abandoned survivors. But as a lead-up, join us for a virtual workshop (TBA: weekday or evening) and at least 2 evening WAT Zoom conversations in the week before. Dates and times will be posted in the next email. Send us an announcement about your vigil for that email. Please join us on the Zoom calls: we all need the strength of community for what lies ahead.

In peace and solidarity,
Witness Against Torture Organizing Team

Donate to support our work

Please consider a donation to help fund WAT's expenses. We are completely volunteer-driven and run. We have no paid staff; all of the money you donate goes to funding the work we do together.

WAT centers the men transferred out of Guantanamo through the Guantanamo Survivors Fund (GSF), also volunteer-run.

Who we are

Witness Against Torture was formed in 2005 when 25 Americans went to Guantánamo Bay and attempted to visit the detention facility. They began to organize more broadly to shut down Guantánamo, end indefinite detention and torture and call out Islamophobia. During our demonstrations, we lift up the words of the detainees themselves, bringing them to public spaces they are not permitted to access. Witness Against Torture will carry on in its activities until torture is decisively ended, its victims are fully acknowledged, Guantánamo and similar facilities are closed, and those who ordered and committed torture are held to account.
