For the first time in U.S. history, there will be a vote in Congress to block deadly weapons transfers to Israel, and that vote could take place tomorrow. The Israeli military has ruthlessly killed over 42,000 Palestinians in just over 12 months, though the actual count is likely much, much higher. At least 16,500 of those killed have been innocent children. As Israel now expands its war into Lebanon, more than 2,400 Lebanese have been killed there as well. While a full ceasefire is essential in ending the bloodshed, the U.S. must also end its complicity in the killing by putting an end to providing the Israeli military with the weapons it needs to carry on with this catastrophe. The Biden administration has been unwilling to do so, and the incoming Trump administration will likely be even more conducive to enabling Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's genocidal plans. It's time for Congress to step in and act. Senators Bernie Sanders, Peter Welch, and Jeff Merkley have introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to stop $20 billion in additional weapons from being sent to Israel. A vote on these resolutions is likely to happen this week. I need you to call your Senators today and demand they support these resolutions to help save lives. Here's all I need you to do - 1) Call the Congressional switchboard at 202-224-3121 2) Ask to be connected to the first of your two Senators 3) Once patched through, give them this message (as much in your own words as possible): Hello, my name is ______________ and I am a constituent of the Senator. I am calling to ask the Senator to co-sponsor and vote in support of Senator Bernie Sanders' six Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block additional weapons packages to the Israeli government. These weapons are a violation of U.S. and international law. Additionally, providing $20 billion in more arms and warplanes only enables Israeli PM Netanyahu's genocidal war against the Palestinians, and could lead to the war escalating throughout the entire region. The best and only way to stop this is to stop sending Israel more weapons. I urge the Senator to co-sponsor and vote in support of the six Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to enable a ceasefire, save innocent lives, and bring an end to this war. 4) When complete with your first Senator, ask the switchboard operator to then connect you with your other Senator's office and repeat. Since these weapons packages were announced by the Biden administration in August, we've generated thousands of emails to members of Congress urging them to oppose them.
