Protesters disrupt Jewish-organized event on the sidelines of the DNC, citing support for Israel's war in Gaza

Protesters have begun to disrupt events on the sidelines of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, citing U.S. support for Israel's war in Gaza.

This includes what is likely the first disruption of a Jewish-organized event that was not explicitly focused on Israel.

Protesters disrupted an event organized by Agudath Israel, an Orthodox Jewish organization, focused on the rise of antisemitism and the importance of the religious Jewish vote.

Chanting "brick by brick, wall by wall, Zionism has got to fall" and "shame on you," protesters were quickly escorted out by the sizable security presence, and it remains unclear how they discovered the event.

The only mention of Israel at the event focused on the horrors of October 7, and Ronen and Orna Neutra (the parents of hostage Omer Neutra) recited Psalms 130 to pray for the return of the hostages.

At an official DNC Women's Caucus event across town, protesters from CODEPINK disrupted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz demanding the U.S. institute an arms embargo on Israel, chanting that "Gaza is a feminist issue."

U.S. disputes report of Netanyahu, Blinken talk on Israeli troops on Gaza-Egypt border

The United States on Tuesday disputed a report that cited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as saying he might have convinced U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Israel should keep troops on a border strip between Gaza and Egypt.

According to an X post by an Axios journalist, Netanyahu told a gathering that Israel would not withdraw forces from the Philadelphi corridor between Gaza and Egypt as it was a strategic military asset, and he told Blinken this during a meeting in Israel on Monday.

Netanyahu said he might have managed to convince the top U.S. diplomat on the issue, Axios added.

"The only thing Secretary Blinken and the United States are convinced of is the need for getting a cease-fire proposal across the finish line," a senior administration official told reporters en route to Doha.

"Maximalist statements like this are not constructive to getting a ceasefire deal across the finish line, and they certainly risk the ability of implementing ... working level, technical talks to be able to move forward," the official said.
