An ad that popped up in my email today from
https://israelwarroom.quorum. us/campaign/columbia/ urged me to send a form letter to the administration of Columbia University to stop an "antisemitic" student vote on whether to support the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign.
As I read the talking points favoring this action, one sentence caught my eye:
"Their vicious petition takes the position of Hamas and absurdly accuses Israel, which is attempting to rescue the hostages and liberate the Gazan people from a terrorist regime, of 'apartheid and genocide.' This is a vile affront to the victims and survivors of the actual massacre."
I wonder how I've missed the obvious fact that the Israeli Defense Force, which has caused the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians -- Ralph Nader suggests the Palestinian death toll could even exceed 200,000 -- how the IDF is in reality the Israeli Force for the Liberation of Palestine. Oh my god! I've misinterpreted the Israelis' "liberating" carpet bombings and drone assassinations and intentional campaigns of starvation and water deprivation and ruination of shelter and imprisonment and torture and murder of Palestinians in Israeli jails and Israeli vigilante posses in the the West Bank and the destruction of schools, mosques and hospitals including assassinations and mass jailings of health workers as genocidal oppression. I now understand that the Israeli cavalry has arrived to liberate Palestine from Hamas.
To paraphrase General Pyrrhus, one more such liberation and Palestine is through.
How could I have been so wrong about Israel?
