Two Zoom Events Tomorrow, Commemorating the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe + 10 years and Environmental Justice

Friends, tomorrow, March 11, is the 10th anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear power disaster, which is frontrunner for the longest and largest industrial catastrophe in global history (ok, excluding mountaintop removal and strip mining, deforestation, anything the Corps of Engineers has ever done, Agent Orange spraying, nuclear weapons tests, etc. etc.). The Fukushima accident will not be deemed concluded until all errant nuclear fuel in the cores of the three melted-down reactors is contained, and that is predicted to take a couple more decades.

At noon tomorrow, there will be a press conference in Monroe, MI, which is 18 miles north of Toledo and the home of the Fermi 2 reactor, the same type of GE reactor as the three radioactive derelicts in Japan. Christie Brinkley, a Monroe native, will be participating, but of even greater interest is that Joe Mangano, a public health expert who maintains the Tooth Fairy Project, which collects baby teeth across the generations to analyze them for radioactive strontium and other weapons and nuclear power-related isotopes, will be unveiling and expanding his study of the possible public health effects of Fermi 2 operations since the mid-80's on SE Michigan.

And beginning at 4 pm Eastern time tomorrow, there will be a stirring observance of the enduring damage and lessons from Fukushima, along with the global and national rise of environmental justice as a social phenomenon during these Anthropocene pandemic times.

Details of all this appear below. I hope you might join us.

        Terry

Subject: [OHIO-NUCLEAR-COMM] Two Amazing Zoom Events - Please Join Us Tomorrow! Commemorating the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe + 10 years, focusing on the world's largest Fukushima twin design -- the Fermi 2 GE BWR Mark I in Monroe County, Michigan

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

See below for two Zoom events in southeast Michigan, commemorating 10 years since the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe in Japan began. They are focused on Fermi 2, the world's largest Fukushima Daiichi twin design -- a General Electric Mark I Boiling Water Reactor, located on the Great Lakes shoreline, drinking water supply -- and so much more -- for 40 million people, in 8 U.S. states, 2 Canadian provinces, and a very large number of Indigenous Nations. Please attend if you can, and spread the word. Thank you!

Hello People,

We hope this finds you well and feeling supported. We are reaching out to remind everyone of a special invitation. Please join us for an amazing live-streaming rally and concert:

Protecting the Earth - from Fukushima to Fermi 2

Thursday, March 11, 4:00-6:00 PM ET (adjust for your timezone)

We have been hard at work putting together this educational, community building, energy raising, change-making FREE live event. Protecting Our Earth will be a phenomenal opportunity to not only gain inspiration as to the possibilities for a safe future for our planet but also to get educated by some amazing people in the work of environmental activism.

We will be hosting the event on Zoom, complete with a dance party supplied by none other than our dear friend, Joe Reilly. We'd love for you to join us on Zoom so that we can see each other and be "in the room" together. You can register for the zoom event here. If you prefer to join us for the live stream on Facebook here's the Protecting our Earth Event on Facebook.

We really hope to see you at the zoom event or that you can at least join us on Facebook.

Last, but very much not least, there is another important event on March 11th earlier in the day. It is a Zoom Press Conference on "Health Studies Near the Fermi Nuclear Plant in Monroe County, Michigan". All of the information you need to join this conference is on our website on the Events page here. We will also be sharing more about what we learn from the information gathered through this study in the weeks to follow. It has been a tremendous effort and we believe that it has the capacity to have a strong impact on the changes we need.

Sincerely,
