POCLAD Seminal Articles and August 12 Webinar Invitation

Greetings POCLAD supporter!

When we launched POCLAD in 1994 we created a printed flyer inviting you Engage US in the idea that giant corporations do not merely exercise power, but that they are literally ruling over us. At the time, it was a radical notion. Today, corporate rule is pretty much accepted reality by most social change agents

With humility, we believe POCLAD played an important role in providing inspiration and an intellectual framework for the global justice movement.

And we are not done yet!

So we extend another invitation to engage us. Two invitations in fact!

1. We invite you to review and reflect on what we believe are among the most important and timeline articles (see below) from our website (poclad.org) over the last several decades.
We believe they speak as much to current conditions as they ever have. Share them with others. Have an email and/or online conversation with friends. Adjust your social change work accordingly to address the fundamental solutions required to address our fundamental problems.

2. We electronically invite you to join us in conversation on Wednesday, August 12.
We'll briefly discuss the articles below and how they best can be used, but also spend time in conversation with you to ask: "How Can We Build a Democracy Movement to Transform Society During a Pandemic?"

We will do a deep-dive on Cooperation Humboldt (co-founded by POCLAD principal David Cobb) as a case-study.

If you're interested in joining us, just click the link below on August 12 at 11am pacific, 12pm mountain, 1pm central, 2pm eastern.

Onward,

POCLAD's Case for Real Democracy

We the People and our federal and state officials have long been giving giant business corporations illegitimate authority. Today, a minority directing giant corporations and backed by police, courts, and the military, define our culture, govern our nation and plunder the earth. The timeless articles below reflects an unabashed assertion of the right of the sovereign people to govern themselves/ourselves. The analysis reflected in the articles evolved through historical and legal research, writing, public speaking and working with organizations to develop strategies that assert people’s rights over property interests.

We currently face not only health and economic crises, but also deepening political and legal crises, including the rise of elements of fascism. Not to be ignored is the environmental/climate crisis threatening the very existence of human beings and many other life forms.

Required are profound systemic changes to address our systemic problems rooted in a desire by our governing institutions to place profits and property over people, communities and the planet.

More than ever, we need to rethink our existing structures and call for radically inclusive and authentic democracy. The articles below present a number of systemic problems and match in scale a few systemic solutions that no longer are optional, but mandatory to achieve real justice in all their forms and a livable world for all living beings.
