On Thursday, January 2, 2020 Pax Christi will host Professor Heleana Theixos at St. Francis Spirituality Center on St. Francis Campus, 200 St. Francis Ave. at 7:00 pm. Theixos will speak of “Moral Injury of Soldiers in War.” All are invited.
Theixos received her PhD in “Moral Injury” from the University of Miami, Florida, in 2016. Theixos lectures on ethics broadly at Heidelberg U and Tiffin U, as well as with veterans’ groups locally and nationally. Her work highlights how most of us are "moral animals," that we care about our own moral goodness, and that transgressing moral codes can have devastating effects to the transgressor. Heleana insists that: “If we, as a nation, ask our own people (military, border agents) to perpetrate serious moral harms, we are being morally negligent and morally complicit in their suffering. This kind of complicity requires significant moral justification.”

Heleana provides further information about the concept of "moral injury" in the attached document.
