josiesetzler@PROTECTED AREA ANTIWAR ACTIVISTS CONVENE EMERGENCY RALLY TO
OPPOSE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION WAR AGAINST IRAN Six grassroots peace and justice organizations from northwest Ohio will rally at the intersection of Central Avenue and Secor Road in Toledo, Ohio on Friday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m. local time to protest President Trump's June 20 commencement of war and hesitation on selected targets in Iran.
Members of the Northwest Ohio Peace Coalition (NWOPC), Toledo Chapter Social Justice Committee of the Association of US Catholic Priests (AUSCP), People for Peace & Justice of Sandusky County, Tiffin Area Pax Christi, Project Peace of Tiffin and Our Revolution in Northwest Ohio are calling upon citizens to join them to demand a complete and unequivocal halt to initiation of combat and immediate United Nations-supervised negotiations.
“Without consulting anyone but a small handful of subservient, inexperienced advisors and having minimally informed Congress, President Trump actually sent our forces into war and supposedly 10 minutes before launching of bombs and missiles, called it off,” said Terry Lodge, one of the convenors of the NWOPC. “He has shredded the Constitution’s requirement that Congress is the only branch that may declare war. Bombing of Iranian targets has been momentarily suspended. American troops and ships are on standby until Sunday night. One wrong move and we’ll be in a major catastrophe spiraling out of U.S. control.”
“The President’s unfitness to hold office is as overwhelming as it is obvious,” commented Josie Setzler of People for Peace & Justice. “It is of the highest priority that he be impeached and stopped from causing the deaths of thousands of Iranians and setting off a massive regional war in the Middle East.”
“It’s appalling that President Trump sees no Congressional role in this enormous decision,” said Jeff Klein, a co-convenor of NWOPC. “As a resident of the 9th District, I’m calling on Marcy Kaptur to get off the fence and act against this sudden, made-up war of choice by the Trump administration.”
“Making war against Iran is a potentially massive war crime, what with the U.S. unilaterally departing the Iran nuclear deal,” commented Mike Ferner, former national president of Veterans For Peace. “We’re one misstep away from a massive regional conflagration in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Saudi Arabia that will likely prompt military strikes by Israel and possibly China and Russia. Having Congress stand against this disastrous mistake could be our only hope.”
