If your peace groups are going to target anything, I would have them target U.S. engagement in Yemen. We are currently ramping up attacks on Al-Qaeda-controlled areas there, and this week or next, the White House is going to officially consider authorizing U.S. troops to join the Saudis and the UAE in their attack on the Houthi rebels. The next step in their campaign is to attack the last port in Houthi-controlled Yemen. If they do attack, the ensuing siege will likely push the country into widespread famine and create a truly massive humanitarian crisis. Things are already dire in Yemen thanks to indiscriminate Saudi bombing of civilian targets and their attempt to keep all humanitarian aid from getting to rebel-controlled areas. Anything we do to make the situation worse will go down as one of the great tragedies in U.S. foreign policy history.

I am having my own troubles getting my Rep. to sign on to this letter, but I think it is good. I doubt Latta will have any interest in it, but it might be good to register your opposition to escalated war in Yemen with Brown's office. They are just asking members of the House, not Senators, to sign for now, so you won't have anything concrete to ask of him. Just ask that he demand Congressional approval for any U.S. combat operations against the Houthis in Yemen.
