You’ve heard of PTSD, but what about Moral Injury? This is the invisible injury of the soul, and our talk will draw a critical line between the two, using key studies from Vietnam veterans. Humans are wired for morality, and when we commit a serious moral wrongdoing or fail to prevent one, this violates innate moral core. The result can be significant debilitating shame, guilt, and possible life long distress. This issue of Moral Injury gives anyone—especially people considering work for agencies like ICE—a profound, psychological reason to avoid a role that could force them to destroy their sense of their own moral goodness.

Dr. Theixos holds a PhD in applied ethics. She studied with Catholic ethics scholars on Just War Theory, the ethics of non violence, and moral injury.
