In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) passed by a funeral, he said: "He is (now) in peace secure from others and others are in peace secure from him." The people asked: "O God’s Messenger! Who is in peace and from whom are others in peace?" He said: "A believing servant (of God) is relieved from afflictions of this world upon his (or her) death, while upon the death of a wicked person, other people, land, trees, and animals are rid of his (or her) evil." CAIR Renews Call for Removal of US Holocaust Memorial Council Member Who Says ‘Maybe We Need to Kill More Civilians’ in Gaza

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today renewed its call for the removal of a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council (Board of Trustees), Martin Oliner after a newly-surfaced video shows him stating “maybe we need to kill more civilians” in Gaza.

In a 2024 video reportedly taken at an event honoring Israel Minister of Science & Technology Ofir Akunis and posted online, Oliner states in part:

SEE: ‘Maybe we need to kill more civilians,’ speaker told gathering hosted by pro-Israel nonprofit in New York - Prism

“So maybe it’s up to us to actually kill civilians. Can a war be won without [Hebrew phrase in the Book of Esther referring to killing women and children]. How are we ever going to win this war. Take the lessons from America. Take the lessons from Dresden. Take the lessons from the firebombing that we did there. Take the lessons from America when they dropped atomic bombs on Japan. Those lessons are imperative…[W]e’re still being accused of genocide. But maybe we need to kill more civilians.”

CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell told Prism, which brought the video to light:

“It’s insane that anyone would say this out loud…It speaks to a deeper problem that goes beyond him…It is what many supporters of the Israeli government are encouraging and backing right now as we speak.”

“The fact that he felt comfortable calling for the killing of more Palestinian civilians…to an audience of pro-Israel advocates, including a representative of the Israeli government, tells you how deep the rot is in terms of hostility and racism towards Palestinians."

CAIR Shares Protest Policy Recommendations with 60+ State Higher Education Leaders, 1,000 Universities

“College students have always been part of critical social justice movements. These include forcing the government to allow women to vote, ending child labor practices, and opposing the Vietnam war, racial segregation and apartheid in South Africa,” said CAIR National Research and Advocacy Director Corey Saylor. “Our goal with this policy is to help university administrators craft an educational environment in which America’s tradition of peaceful protest can thrive, despite government efforts to chill free speech.”

CAIR Calls on Trump to Protect Civilian Life After Signal Chat Members Celebrate Killing Yemeni Civilians

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“Although most public criticism of Trump administration officials has focused on the unprecedented national security breach that they committed, far less attention has been paid to the heartless nature of their conversation: casually celebrating the killing of Yemeni civilians, including a specific female bystander.

“Praising each other for destroying a building full of civilians because a single target was supposedly visiting his girlfriend there is, to put it simply, sociopathic. The Trump administration must adhere to the rules of war, including protecting civilian life, and stop starting new forever wars in the Middle East. President Trump should focus his energy on ending the genocide in Gaza, which is the only way to advance peace across the Middle East.”

CAIR Calls Sec. Hegseth’s ‘Kafir’ Tattoo a ‘Sign of Both Anti-Muslim Hostility and Personal Insecurity’

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“Tattooing the Arabic word kafir–which essentially refers to a person who knowingly conceals or denies fundamental, divine truths–on his body is a sign of both anti-Muslim hostility and personal insecurity.

“It appears Islam lives so rent-free in Pete Hegseth’s head that he feels the need to stamp himself with tattoos declaring his opposition to Islam alongside a tattoo declaring his affinity for the failed Crusaders, who committed genocidal acts of violence against Jews, Muslims and even fellow Christians centuries ago. You don’t see American Muslims running around with tattoos declaring their opposition to Christianity because we are secure in our own faith, we respect the beliefs of our neighbors and, in any case, most Muslims do not wear tattoos for religious reasons.

“Secretary Hegseth can tattoo himself with whatever he wants, but he should keep in mind that he leads the U.S. armed forces, which includes thousands of American Muslims, and that he is sworn to defend the American people, who include millions of American Muslims.”

CAIR Action Alert: Join Emergency Interfaith Vigil in Annapolis Opposing Student Repression, Genocide

The Maryland Office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, urges the public to join interfaith groups in Maryland's capital of Annapolis on Thursday, April 3 at a vigil and call to action urging state lawmakers to break their silence, demand an end to the Gaza genocide, defend Marylanders' right to free speech, and oppose Senate Bill 847/House Bill 1462 CAMPUS Act that would risk student repression on campuses.

CAIR Calls on Oscars to End 'Hypocritical Silence' on Israeli Settler Attack on Filmmaker Hamdan Ballal

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“It is the height of hypocrisy for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to condemn the arrest of filmmakers by the Iranian government, but now claim it must remain silent when Israeli settlers and armed forces attack an Oscar-winning Palestinian filmmaker. We call on the Oscars to stand on principle and, with specificity, condemn the violent attack on and kidnapping of Oscar winner Hamdan Ballal."

CAIR-NY Condemns Hate-Filled Attack on African American Teenager at Brooklyn Subway Station

CAIR Urges Congress and All Government Bodies to Issue Eid Welcoming Statements, Resolutions

In a statement, CAIR Director of Government Affairs Department Robert S. McCaw said:

“Eid ul-Fitr is a time for celebrating community bonds, charity, and spiritual renewal. We encourage elected officials and governmental bodies nationwide to issue statements and resolutions acknowledging Eid ul-Fitr, reinforcing our shared values of religious freedom, mutual respect, and inclusivity. By marking this significant holiday, leaders can help foster understanding and strengthen the diversity and unity of our nation.”

CAIR: U.S. Muslims to Mark End of Ramadan Fast with Prayers

CAIR-NJ Calls for Immediate Investigation into Biased, Harmful School Assignment at New Brunswick High

CAIR-NJ Executive Director Selaedin Maksut stated:

“This assignment is an egregious violation of educational integrity. By distorting the facts of Mahmoud Khalil’s case and presenting him in an unfair and biased light, this lesson is not only misleading but harmful. It perpetuates a dangerous narrative that seeks to silence dissent and label those who speak out for human rights as threats.

“It is crucial our students are taught to think critically and engage with issues fairly, without being subjected to discriminatory and inaccurate portrayals of individuals based on their activism or identity.

“We call for an immediate investigation into how this assignment was created and distributed and for corrective action to ensure that such biased materials are never used again in New Jersey’s classrooms.”
