I don't know who are behind the Mockingjay organizers locally, but a friend told me that the name comes from The Hunger Game series of books/movies. So, it's a name that would draw in young people who grew up reading the books in middle to high school most likely.
I don't mind young people being active protesters, but are they actual PEACE protesters and are they pro-Palestine or pro-Israel or they just don't care? We need to focus the public's attention on how terrible things are in Gaza and the West Bank (also Syria and Lebanon which have been bombed this week). I'm afraid the Peace in Palestine message will be diluted by other signage that may or may not be peace related. It could even be misleading to the public, especially if their signs or chants suggest violent means of usurping Trump and Musk.
I've seen a lot of this violent messaging online lately—one post on X said, "Gaza deserves to burn because Kamala was denied her win!" And I've seen plenty of other posts along a similar vein, blaming Palestinians for Trump winning office. That's what I find really distressful and concerning. This isn't peace activism, IMO.

From: khani@PROTECTED Cindy, I was surprised by this too. Who is organizing this group?

Are there any protests in Toledo this week or next?
I was told that this Mockingjay group is simply a Democrat Party "color revolution" group. (Something akin to "Indivisible" a group that popped up fully formed overnight after Bernie Sanders' run was ended by the Dems). I know these Mockingjay folks probably mean well, but are they standing up for the human rights of Palestinians? The DNC certainly doesn't stand up for Palestinian rights, as we learned during the elections. Not once did Harris say she would end the genocide, did she?
So, I am concerned that our Northwest OHio Peace Coalition is being used to recruit people to the DNC, an organization that isn't against the genocide in Gaza, and whose politicians accept lots of money from AIPAC and other pro-zy0nist organizations. (Just check out the website "Track AIPAC" for more information.)
I think others may have similar concerns about who exactly are behind these "protests" that magically popped up after Trump came into office. If they were anti-genocide protesters, why didn't we see them out on the street corners last year?
