Dr. thomas and anne marie, earlier this week, Israeli soldiers entered a United Nations-run school in Gaza filled with men, women, and children. At least two witnesses on the ground told reporters that they proceeded to indiscriminately execute dozens – including children.
Almost every day, new reports of fundamental human rights violations are coming out about the Israel-Palestine war. Already, at least 1 in 100 Palestinians living in Gaza have been killed in the fighting.
Targeting civilians is a violation of their human rights and international law. But so far, the White House has refused to take any action to prevent our own taxpayer-provided military aid to Israel from being used to indiscriminately kill women and children in Gaza. Meanwhile, only a handful of Senators have criticized Israeli human rights violations or called for a ceasefire.
That’s why we’re hopeful about the new resolution that Senator Bernie Sanders just introduced, that can bypass Senate leadership and force a vote in the Senate. The resolution requires the State Department to do a full investigation into human rights abuses by the Israeli military within 30 days or cut off security aid.
Will you write to your Senator to ask them to support the resolution?
Every hour counts. In World War 2, allied forces destroyed 56% of the city of Dresden’s civilian buildings over the course of a two-year bombing campaign. Gaza has lost that many buildings in just two months.
Of the 19,000 killed and 50,000 wounded, over 70% of those people are women and children. And when it comes to much of the larger-scale munitions and artillery shells used by the Israeli military, those items are produced & sold by the United States.
It is painfully clear that the Israeli military is wantonly violating human rights in its counteroffensive. And based on the language of their political leaders, the situation could still escalate for the people of Gaza.
In solidarity,
