Oh dear, Tom just wrote to ask us NOT to send your letters to Tuft’s Anthropology Dept. or to the administration either,  UNTIL he provides the correct address to send them to !
Sorry !

Dear Friends,

As we all know, the universities are a primary target for Zionist silencing.  Courses that treat the issue of occupation are deemed “anti-Semitic," and are often closed down after strong pressure, and threats of rescinding financial support. There are countless examples, as seen in the article below in its labeling as “terrorists,” the many Voices of opposition it lists.
The media is another target, of course. One recent example,  Zionist threatening of BBC news to change the headline of a story that stated:  the killing of a pregnant mother and her child by an Israeli bomb.  BBC conceded, and left out those words calling it “bombs in Gaza killed (them)….”

I urge you to write letters to the Dept. of Anthropology and to Tuft’s administration, in support of Tom’s course.  We desperately need pushback !

In solidarity,

Anne

PS Please do not rule out Alison Weir’s work.  If Americans Knew gives minute-to-minute reports on Israel’s atrocities such as the one I quoted above.

See below the letter by Tom Abowd, the Tufts professor teaching the course, "Colonizing Palestine."  I received the letter from Harvard professor Sara Roy's listserve. Professor Abowd is asking for letters of support for his course to go forward.  Tufts is getting a lot of push back and it is not entirely clear (given Tufts effort to change the terms of his contract) how much support Tufts is giving.

From Tom Abowd--

Greetings all, by now you've all heard about the campaign against my course, "Colonizing Palestine," which is happening at the same time as the administration's recent efforts to only renew my contract for 1-year. They just promoted me in June, which comes with a 5-year contract but at about the time they heard from outside Zionist pressure, they told me i'm only getting a 1-year renewal. I believe the two issues are linked.

However, at this point, what I'm asking people to do is to simply write letters in support of the course. I'm hoping the contract concerns can be ironed out under a separate Grievance procedure. What Tufts administration needs to hear is that there is widespread support for "Colonizing Palestine" course. If you are comfortable writing a letter in support of the course, particularly in light of the article below, that would be great. I, or others, will be in touch in the next day or so with more information. Again, I don't think opposition to their contract decision at AT THIS POINT is preferable. I want to salvage my Palestine course for this coming term, at this point. Please tell others about the course--all are welcome and there are no pre-reqs. I can send a syllabus and more information to any interested.
best, Tom
