Demonstration to protest Hewlett Packard's complicity in
Israeli occupation.
When: Sunday Dec 4 at 12:00 PM- 1:30 PM
What: Protest HP's complicity in Israeli occupation.
Where: Corner of Secor and Central in Toledo,OH
In support of the international boycott Hewlett Packard week of action, the North West Ohio Peace Coalition(NWOPC) will hold a demonstration to call attention to HP's complicity in Israeli oppression of Palestinians and violation of international law.
HP supplies the electronic biometric ID cards used by the Israeli discriminatory checkpoints inside the segregated West Bank to deprive the Palestinians of their rights of free movement. HP provides technology for the illegal Jewish-only settlements, occupying Palestinian lands. HP also contracts with the ministry of Defence and provides key IT infrastructure and support services for the Israeli navy to enforce the deadly blockade and destruction of Gaza.
" HP's involvement in such egregious human rights violations is specially troubling, given their stated corporate principles." Said Maysoon Otaibi, a local NWOPC activist.
" Profiting from the Israeli occupation is bad for business and it is not socially responsible" She added.
Caroline Hunter, the Polaroid employee, who discovered her company's role in South Africa notes: "Just as Polaroid was a key boycott target during the apartheid era providing imaging for South Africa's notorious pass system, people of conscience today should boycott HP companies for providing imaging and technology for Israeli apartheid."
A number of churches have already agreed to divest their holdings in HP, including the Unitarian Church of Christ, the Presbyterians and the Quakers. We hope that more business, organizations and individuals will be boycotting HP products, until they live up to their stated principles and end all the contracts with human rights violators.
