MINUTES FOR THE NWOPC MEETING HELD ON SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2015
Those who attended this meeting at Berry’s Bagels after the demonstration at Holland and Dussel are:
JEFF KLEIN, KELLIE ZENZ, JEFF ZENZ, TOM McDONALD, STEVE MILLER, SHARON HALVELAC, and KAREN WOLF.
We discussed the future of NWOPC:
Jeff Klein said that we should take on an educational thrust, and team up with other groups like Black Lives Matter, Move to Amend, and Trees (a new group Tom belongs to which is intent upon planting trees to help fight global warming).
Steve suggested that we proceed as a working group. This would mean having meetings only for event planning, not once or twice a month. All agreed to this.
We discussed planning an action to mark the 14th anniversary of the U. S. invasion of Iraq on March 19. All agreed it was too soon to plan anything, and it would generate little interest.
It was suggested that we do an April 15 action to educate about how much of our tax dollars go to the military war machine.
Sharon thought we should do a social media blitz with the pie chart from the War Resisters’ League.
Jeff Klein said we should hold signs at the main post office.
Karen thought that we need a new focus for NWOPC, not to revisit past actions.
So this idea was scrapped.
All agreed that we will do something on April 22 in support of the National Committee for Nonviolent Resistance Meets Earth Day Action.
We will research and find out what other groups are doing on Earth Day. Perhaps our action will piggy back onto another group’s event, or we will do a standalone event.
The purpose of the event will be to call for an end to the destruction of Mother Earth by the U.S. military through pollution, depleted uranium, nuclear weapons, etc.
We will gather information and report back on March 29.
