following on my earlier message today, this is appalling, friends.

I move the NWOPC to send a message to the Ohio Senate President expressing outrage.  It should be a separate, individually-written letter (I won't have time until midweek, if someone else wants maybe to parrot from the ACLU message).  This is a critical human rights and peace/justice issue. If we don't step up on this then what are we doing?

Dear Terry:
Ohio’s secret execution bill is on the fast track, but there’s still time to stop it.
State lawmakers are rushing House Bill 663 through the legislature in the last days of its session to keep the public and the courts from knowing virtually anything about executions in the state. The bill was just approved by the Ohio House of Representatives and now goes to the state Senate.
They plan to pass this legislation soon. Help stop HB 663 now!
Opposition is growing against HB 663. In addition to the ACLU, other organizations have voiced grave doubts about it, including the Ohio State Medical Association, Ohio Newspaper Association, Society of Professional Journalists, Ohio Catholic Conference, Ohio Council of Churches, and the Office of the Ohio Public Defender.
A recent editorial against HB 663 says Senate President Keith Faber has concerns about this legislation.
Ohio’s lethal injections have been riddled with problems—four botched executions in less than 10 years. Now legislators want to cloak all aspects of lethal injections in secrecy.
If HB 663 is enacted, the execution process will be shrouded in secrecy. Without proper oversight by the public, media, government watchdogs, and the courts, it will be a matter of when, not if, another botched execution happens.
Rightfully, Ohioans are distrustful that executions are conducted properly. So why are lawmakers rushing to pass this legislation without thoughtful consideration and public discussion?
Please take action now to ask Ohio Senate President Keith Faber to hold HB 663 and not move it forward this year. We’ve prepared a message to get you started.
